What is Baptism?
The word "baptism" in the Greek language means "to immerse" and it is a picture of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Water baptism does not have a role in the salvation of a person, as salvation comes as a result of the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 2:1-5) and His gift of faith, resulting in one's belief in the work of Jesus on the cross (by faith in Christ alone, through grace alone) and repentance of sin, resulting in their salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Baptism is an outward, public identification with Christ and an outward, public testimony of the inward reality of the work of the Holy Spirit (Romans 6:4-5).
